PRODUCT CARE
JEWELRY CARE
Proper care and periodic cleaning are necessary in order to keep the original beauty of your jewelry for years to come. Please use this method for cleaning for most of jewelry, except for jewelry with opals, turquoise, emeralds and other softer gemstones.
Wipe your jewelry with a soft jewelry cloth after each wear and store the items in an airtight container lined with soft materials to avoid tarnishing and scratches. If your jewelry needs more cleaning than soft jewelry cloth provides, soak the jewelry in a solution of warm water and mild, unscented liquid soap for a few minutes, then clean them gently with soft toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry completely with a soft cloth after washing.
Please do not carry heavy objects and bags, play sports, or do household cleaning activities while you are wearing Hikaru's jewelry. Avoid putting too much force or weight on your jewelry.
To avoid scratches, please do not place items in contact with rough surfaces. Letting jewelries come in contact with chemicals such as perfume, deodorant, or cleaning products and abrasive detergents, are not recommended, as they tend to build up and may even discolor metals and gemstones.
Please keep jewelry away from small children and pets. Hikaru Furuhashi's jewelry should not be used as jewelry or toy for children under the age of 12.
GOLD
Use a jewelry care cloth to wipe after each use. We recommend that you have gold jewelry cleaned professionally at a jewelry store using the ultrasonic method, if deep cleaning is needed (avoid ultrasonic treatment if the gold jewelry contains soft stones such as turquoise, emeralds and opals).
STERLING SILVER, BRASS AND BRONZE
Sterling silver, brass and bronze tends to tarnish if it comes into contact with air for a long period of time, as it naturally contains sulfur. We believe that tarnishing can be quite beautiful, as it shows the age and history of the piece. That said, you can keep these jewelries in airtight containers to minimize tarnishing. Even a ziplock bag will do the job! If the jewelry tarnishes or gets deeper color, use a jewelry care cloth such as Sunshine Polishing Cloths (available on Amazon) to clean the item.
GOLD PLATE
Our 14K gold plate items are plated in-house using the environmental and human friendly non-toxic method. The base of the jewelry are either sterling silver, brass or bronze. Please avoid scratching or using harsh detergent or other house-hold chemicals, as it may remove the gold surface from jewelry. While gold plate items keep the original shines longer as it won't tarnish as easy as solid sterling silver, brass or bronze, it may wear off as you scratch too often or worn long period of time. In this case, please feel free to get in touch, as we are happy to offer $20 re-plating includes the US domestic return shipping. International shipping may apply.
OPALS, TURQUOISE, EMERALDS AND OTHER SOFT STONES
Please avoid gemstones to contact sharp and rough surfaces as it may scratch or even damage the stones. Also, please avoid harsh soaps and other house-hold chemicals like bleach - as this may cause discoloration.
For daily care, please wipe gently with a soft facial tissues to remove the visible dirt and grime. Occasionally, when the jewelry needs to be cleaned more than that, we recommend to use a couple of drops of unscented, mild liquid soap into a cup of warm water in a bowl with smooth surface to make a cleaning solution. Please do not use very hot or cold water as it may crack the stone. Soak the jewelry in the solution for a few seconds then swish around. Then, rinse very well to wash out all the soap in the clean lukewarm water and dry gently and completely with the soft cloth, such as micro fiber cloth. A bit of love for your jewelry can go long ways!
DIAMONDS AND OTHER PRECIOUS GEMSTONES
We recommend that you have diamonds and other precious gemstone jewelry cleaned professionally at a jewelry store once in a while to keep the original beauty. For daily care, please see "JEWELRY CARE" on the top of this page. Please store diamond jewelry separate from other jewelry, as diamonds are hard enough to scratch other metals and gems.
